Marvelous Mythical Creatures

From Saturday, 12 October 2024, to Sunday, 9 March 2025, Royal Burgers' Zoo is hosting an adventure event for all ages!
The event is included in the regular admission fee and free for season ticket holders

Life-size mythical creatures can be discovered all over the park: many of the figures move and make sounds. Designed for the Arnhem Zoo, the colourful creatures tell an exciting story with numerous references to existing animal species.

Famous mythical creatures
Dozens of well-known mythical creatures have been designed on behalf of and in close cooperation with Burgers' Zoo, often at full scale! Visitors can admire legends such as the dragon, unicorn, centaur, mermaid, Minotaur, phoenix, and even the Loch Ness monster. Lesser-known mythical creatures such as the mantichora, mandragora and tree nymphs are also featured. These creatures are often based on existing species, serving as inspiration for countless extraordinary stories from cultures around the world.

One of the most famous mythical creatures is, of course, the werewolf! And which werewolf is more popular in the Netherlands than Dolf the Werewolf? In collaboration with well-known children's author Paul van Loon, we came up with an extraordinary story set in Burgers' Zoo. Dolf the Werewolf spends a night at the Arnhem Zoo and has an exciting adventure that leads him past various mythical creatures. Visitors of all ages can join the audio tour in Dutch or German during the event.

An exciting adventure in ‘The Dark Forest'
Bold adventurers (from around ten years old) enter a mysterious maze in search of the Minotaur. At a special location in our zoo, visitors can explore 'The Dark Forest' and discover additional exciting mythical creatures such as Cerberus, the manticore and the basilisk. Parents and children can decide for themselves whether they want to see these additional creatures.
